![]() The ultimate.Two versions of i-vtec are used on the K-series motor. On engines like the K20A3 & K24A3 , found in our local CRV & ACCORD type-S, this type of vtec system only operates on the intake cam. At low rpm,only one intake valve opens fully, the other slightly, to create a swirl effect in the combustion chamber for improved fuel atomization and economy. At high rpm, BOTH intake valves operate the same,to improve power and torque. On engines like the K20Z4, found in our local Civic Type-R (FN2), the vtec system operates on both the intake and exhaust valves, allowing the benefit of multiple cam profiles & vtec at all times during the rev range.
