![]() Frankenstein!Imagine a B16a with ALOT more torque!! This is what the B18b(LS) vtec is all about. Basically it is the B18b motor( same bore, longer stroke as B16a) found in 180i Ballades, with a B16a cyl head strapped to it. All B-series motors share the same bolt pattern on the cyl head & bell housing, making the B16 head(with minor internal mods) a direct bolt on to the B18b sub assy and vtec gearbox. The B18b does however not have the internal oil passages for vtec, and these get added on externally. The B18b cambelt is used on this conversion. A waterpump upgrade(recommended) requires the use of the B16a pump & B18c/B16b cambelt. The B18b has 8mm rodbolts, these get replaced with stronger versions from ARP for higher rpm integrity and reliability. The OE pistons of the B18b can be used as is, up to SKUNK2 stg1.SKUNK2 stg2's require piston valve relief mods, over and above valvetrain upgrades as described in the B16 section. A very effective upgrade to the B18b, is to use B16a pistons on the B18b rods. This yields a compression increase of around 3 points. JDMstg's 1 & 2 are required for any B18b vtec build up. JDM TUNING offers a full engine building facility to accomodate any requirements by our customers. |
